Daly Computer Services was established in 1991 after its initial launch in August 1989 as J.W. Daly & Associates, computer consultants, started by John Daly.
Daly had been in restaurant management for several years after having graduated from college at UC Davis. Having determined that this was not going be a very rewarding or remunerative career, he made the jump to the electronics industry. He spent four and half years working for several computer companies in sales and then in service before deciding to start his own company which was officially launched August 17, 1989. In those days the top end computer was a 8 or 16 megahertz 80286 based system with 1 megabyte of RAM and a 20 megabyte hard drive. Virtually no one had a CD-ROM drive as they were too expensive.
The first office was opened in Davis, California and then was moved to Woodland, 8 miles north, as work and family migrated in that direction. In 1991 the office was moved to Sacramento since most of the opportunities and business was being developed in that area. The business has gone through several iterations following changes in the industry. Unlike many other companies, Daly Computer Services survived Y2K, the dot com bubble bust and the following industry recession and has stood its ground against giants like HP and Dell, providing personalized and attentive service to the small and medium sized business network.
This service oriented company has seventeen years of experience, having built its first in house system from the chassis out in the fall of 1989. It got involved in networking when it built its first network -- a Novell based network -- in 1991. Since then Daly Computer Services has been wiring small and medium sized businesses for success through all the generations of networks as the technology changed and improved. For its own use, the company has used Novell 2.2-4.x, Windows 3.11, NT 4.0, Windows 95/98, Windows 2000 and XP on a peer to peer basis, as well as with Windows and Novell servers. We currently install and support Windows 2003 Server in any flavor as well as Windows 2000 and XP workstations. We are testing Vista and no doubt will be using it broadly as the new operating system becomes more popular.
